Commander Wash
The Philippine Government bestowed onto Wash in 1991 the Philippine Legion of Honor, Degree of Commander.

In 1992, Wash became the Ramon Magsaysay Awards Foundation awardee for International Understanding.

Wash is presented with a plaque by Former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, citing him as an Outstanding Manilan in 1996.

In 1996, SGV & Co. became the first ISO 9002-certified professional services firm in the Philippines. The company founded by Wash remains the only such certified company till now.

The year 1996 marked the Golden Anniversary of SGV & Co.

Retirement
During the 50th anniversary celebrations, Wash announced his retirement. After 50 years of nurturing and molding the company into the respected and exceptional institution SGV has become, Wash turned over the reins of managing the firm to the new breed of SGVeans.

Wash was far from slowing down, releasing his book Asian Perspectives on Business Management, Economic Success and Governance in 1996. The book was published by the UP Press.

In 1996, AIM honored Wash by establishing the W. SyCip Policy Center.

The Columbia Business School bestowed onto Wash the Botwinick Prize in Business Ethics and in Ethical Practice in the Profession in 1996.
